Troubleshooting Your Wireless Connection

The wireless technologies and computer peripherals Little Apple uses to connect you to the Internet are highly reliable, but as with any electronic device, problems can occur from time to time.

If your connection to the Internet is not functioning properly please try the following steps BEFORE you call a technician:

  1. Try restarting your computer.
  2. Most Little Apple customers have a router installed in their home. Routers are small boxes about the size of a paperback book and are made by companies like D-Link, Zyxel, Linksys and others. A typical router looks something like this:

Routers sometimes become congested and will "lock up." Turning the router off and on (power cycling) will correct this. Unfortunately, most routers don't have on/off switches. To turn it off, you need physically unplug the power cord from the back of the router for a few seconds and then plug it back in. Be careful not to jostle or unplug any of the other cables connected to the router. The power cord is black and has a small round connector that plugs into a round receptacle as shown on the far right below:

  3. Make sure two of the lights on your surge suppressor (labeled PANAMAX) are GREEN.

  4. Try resetting you Little Apple Dish by power cycling your dish. To do this, you may unplug either the large transformer (labeled Motorola with a green light) where it plugs into the wall or the cable (usually white or blue) that plugs into the small plastic "pigtail" at the end of the power cord. (See photo below)

You should not unplug anything from the router. Connections are made to certain plug in the router that you do not want to inadvertently disturb or change.

Note: It will take a minute for your service to come back up after you do this.

  5. Has anything changed on your computer? Have you installed any new software--especially firewall software? If so, make sure that it is not blocking your connection or specific sites. If unsure how to change your firewall settings, you can contact us.

We can't tell if your Internet connection is down or if your computer is just turned off, so it's important that you notify us if you do not have service so we can fix it promptly.
